Rosacea and Diet The connection between Rosacea and diet has long been established, with many common everyday foods acting as a trigger for a Rosacea outbreak.
There are certain foods which seem to have well publicized negative effects on Rosacea sufferers.
Foods like spicy curry's or Mexican cuisine, alcohol, and in particular red or white wines and dairy all seem to get a mention in almost every Rosacea guide that you download or buy from a bookstore.
But, there are other, less well recognized triggers, which affect almost as many people every year as the headline grabbers.
One such food is meat.
An everyday staple of the average North American diet, this one item of food is now being recognized as a major factor in Rosacea attacks.
Clinical science hasn't yet managed to find the exact ingredient in meat that causes the condition to worsen, but it is thought that there may be two substances which cause the flare ups.
The first is called Neu5Gc.
Not the easiest name to remember, but this chemical is a type of glycan, or sugar molecule.
Research has discovered that the human body doesn't produce this substance naturally, so when it is introduced it is believed that an anti-Neu5Gc antibody is made to fight off the invading glycan.
This could be then trigger an immune response from the body which could then lead to a chronic inflammation.
The second substance in meat which could set off an attack is called, Tyramine, which is a mono-amine.
This substance acts directly on the small blood vessels.
Whilst there is no conclusive evidence, it is thought that Tyramine, which is a vasoconstrictor, constricts the blood vessels, which causes the body to over compensate and dilate the blood vessels too much.
This over expansion of those cells is though to be the trigger to Rosacea.
Next time that you are planning your menus, be sure to keep in mind the role that meat plays with your Rosacea and diet.
