Keeping the Love in Your Marriage - Tips For Couples Facing Conflict

103 6
Keeping the love in your marriage is obviously crucial if you hope to have a long lasting, deeply connected relationship with your spouse.
It's common for couples to start to drift apart after being married for a time.
The daily pressures of life and energy required to raise children takes its toll on the couple.
If you don't feel as connected to your partner as you once did, you need to address that.
Ignoring it will only widen the emotional gap between the two of you.
If you want to reclaim the love and devotion you two once felt for one another, it's actually much easier than you may think.
One of the most important things when you are working on keeping the love in your marriage is to focus on the positive in your partner.
It's very easy to fall into a pattern where you criticize your spouse continually.
Many couples do this without even fully realizing it.
They take out all of their life's frustrations on their spouse and the bond that was once strong becomes very weak and damaged.
Start complimenting your partner more and when you speak of them to others, only talk about the things you love most about them.
This will help change your way of thinking so you start seeing your partner through the same eyes you did on your wedding day.
Communication is obviously essential for keeping the love alive in your marriage but you and your spouse may not be putting in the effort to do this.
We tend to think that if we spend any time at all talking to our spouse each day that we're communicating.
Obviously that's part of the puzzle, but it reaches well beyond idle chit chat about the kids' schedules or what's on the menu for dinner.
You two need to talk about your relationship and the expectations each of you have.
Find some quiet time to do this at least once a week, more is even better.
Listen and learn from one another.
Don't overlook the power in dating your spouse.
Although we often only associate dating with the getting-to-know you phase of a relationship, it can do wonders for a couple who have spent years together.
Go out and have fun with one another.
Visit your old favorite haunts and find a few new ones.
Create adventures together and that will reenergize your marriage and breathe new life back into your connection.
