When & How to Store Gladiolus Corms?
- 1). Dig gladiolus corms two months after the plant blooms or after the first frost kills its foliage, whichever occurs first. Loosen the soil with a spade about 1 foot from the plant's base to prevent cutting the roots. Work your way around the gladiolus, pushing the spade's blade deeper into the ground until you reach a level below the corms. Lift them out and lay them on the surface.
- 2). Clip the stems off the corms and move them into a room with air circulation and low humidity. Maintain the room between 60 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Plug in a dehumidifier if the weather is always damp. Leave the corms to dry undisturbed for the next three weeks.
- 3). Scrub the soil gently from the gladiolus corms with your fingers. Don't use water. Separate corms stuck to each other as you pry them apart with your hands. Discard the corm in the center, which is the original that multiplied underground.
- 4). Place the corms in a paper bag. Close the bag and store it at 35 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit in a dry and dark room, such as a garage or basement, through the winter. Replant your gladiolus corms in spring.
