How to Install Rock Water Fountains

    • 1). Dig a hole for your rock fountain. The hole should be deep enough and wide enough to accommodate the plastic basin. The top of the basin should be level with the ground. Place the basin in the ground and put a concrete block in the basin. This will stop the basin from shifting in the ground.

    • 2). Place a piece of metal screening over the top of the underground basin. It is OK if the screening is larger than the dimensions of the basin. Find the center of the metal screening and cut a hole with a pair of metal cutting shears. The hole in the center of the screening should be large enough for the water pump's discharge pipe and power cord. Remove the screening and set it aside.

    • 3). Attach the discharge pipe to the water pump. Place the water pump in the bottom of the underground basin. The discharge pipe should be long enough to pop up above the surface of the ground. Place the metal screen over the basin with the discharge pipe poking through the hole in the center. Also, thread the power cord from the water pump through the hole in the center of the screen.

    • 4). Pour water through metal screening and into the underground basin. Fill the basin to the top.

    • 5). Cover the surface of the metal screen with garden rocks and stones. Use any type of rocks you want. Get creative and use colorful stones or rocks that match your backyard décor. Make sure that the discharge pipe's top is above the pile of rocks.

    • 6). Lead the power cord to a nearby GFCI plug. Hide the cord by wrapping it around plants and garden rocks, or by burying it a few inches under the ground. Plug the cord in and watch the water flow from the top of the discharge pipe and around the rocks. The water will flow down through the rocks and back into the basin below.
