Creating the Ringtone File

• 1). Open Audacity and click "File" > "Open" from the toolbar menu. Browse through your music and select the song that you want to make a ringtone from.
  
  
• 2). Use your mouse to highlight the portion of the track that you want to use as your ringtone. The ringtone can't be longer than 30 seconds.
  
  
• 3). Select "Edit" > "Copy" from the toolbar. Select "File" > "New" to create a new sound file. Click "Edit" > "Paste" to paste your ringtone clip.
  
  
• 4). Click "File" > "Export as MP3." Remember which folder you're storing your file in, because you will need to navigate to it later.
  
  

Adding the Ringtone to Your iPhone

• 1). Connect your iPhone to your computer via its USB cable. Open iTunes if it doesn't open automatically.
  
  
• 2). Drag and drop the ringtone clip file you saved earlier into your iTunes library.
  
  
• 3). Right click the ringtone file in your iTunes library and select "Convert Selection to AAC." Right click your newly converted file and select "Show in Windows Explorer" to find the file's location. Rename this file the title of the song followed by ".m4r" (without quotations). For example, if your ringtone is "All You Need Is Love," then your file should say "All You Need Is Love.m4r."
  
  
• 4). Double click the ".m4r" file to automatically play it and add it to your iTunes "Ringtones" library. You can make sure the file is in your ringtone library by clicking your iPhone icon in iTunes and then the "Ringtones" section.
  
  
• 5). Sync your iPhone by clicking the iPhone icon and then clicking the "Sync" button. The ringtone will now be added to your iPhone.
