How to Create a Web Diary
- 1). Connect to the Internet. No software is required to start your web diary. You will, however, need a web host. Use a web browser to search the term "free blogs." You will get a list of host sites such as TypePad, WordPress and Blogger/Blogspot (the three most popular). Look at the features of each and decide which you would like to use.
- 2). Choose a blog host and click its "Get Started" or "Create My Account" button. You will need to provide an email address and choose a password. Keep your password in a secure place you can easily find. The hosting site will walk you through the steps of creating a new account and will offer privacy settings to limit access so you can control who views your entries.
- 3). Close and reopen the site to test your log-on information. You will be prompted to enter your email address and password, then your blog page will open. Click the "New Post" button to see a page where you can to type your entry. You will find icons for uploading picture and video files. Again, the site will walk you through the process. If you run into a snag or have questions about features, access the site's "Help" or "Tutorial" section.
- 4). After writing a post, click the "Save Now" or "Save and Preview" button. Now you can preview your post as it will appear on your blog. If you are satisfied, click the "Publish" button and your post will go live, meaning it will be visible to others. If you do not want to publish yet, you can return to the editing window. By the way, your live posts can be edited or taken down any time you choose.
- 5). View your blog, or diary, by clicking the "View Blog" button. Be sure to tell your friends about your blog and provide them with its URL address.
