How to Make a Free Debate Website

104 10
    • 1). Find a free website host that offers the collection of tools and hosting options you're most interested in. For example, for a debate website, look for a builder that allows the installation of a personal blog where visitors can leave comments or one that includes a user-made forum (see Resources).

    • 2). Sign up for your host, give your website a name and pick a layout that best fits your website's personality. Remember, you can always change the layout later by going into your website's appearance settings. Use a color theme that fits your website's focus or topic. For example, if the site is meant for children, using primary colors such as blue, yellow and red is best.

    • 3). Include a navigational menu below the header of your site or within the sidebar. Use categories or drop-down menus for related topics when possible. Note that the easier the site is for your visitors to navigate, the greater the opportunity to have them involved in the site's debates. Include a page on your site's navigation that goes over the rules of the site and the debates that take place. Invite new members, but make sure those who join understand any limitations the site may have.

    • 4). Use a font that's easy to read. Pick a color for your font that shows up against the background color. Avoid using fancy, decorative fonts as they may not display on most computers properly. Stick to fonts such as Arial, Times New Roman and Courier New.

    • 5). Add a blog to the site and allow visitors to comment. Take your debate possibilities even further by allowing visitors to post their own blog entries or by installing a forum where members can create new threads and interact with one another. Appoint active members to moderate the forums to avoid flame wars and other forms of bad behavior.

    • 6). Interact with your members when you can and make sure the site remains focused. If the debate site is meant for individuals over a certain age, include topics that can involve the appropriate age groups.
