How to Make Bread Look Artificial
- 1). Mix the flour, salt and water in a large bowl. Using your hands for this is easier than trying to stir the mixture. Dust your hands with flour to keep the dough from sticking to you. Once you get all three ingredients incorporated well, begin kneading it just as you would when you're making real bread.
- 2). Dust a wooden cutting board with flour or baking mix, and turn out the mixture out onto the board. Continue kneading until it looks just like bread dough ready to rise.
- 3). Shape the dough. You can choose a long French baguette, individual rolls or croissants or a round sourdough loaf. Make the shape as realistic as possible, keeping in mind that no bread loaf is perfect.
- 4). Decorate the loaf. Slash the top of the bread loaf horizontally several times with a knife to get a classic look. Add poppy seeds or sesame seeds.
- 5). Place the loaf on a lightly greased cookie sheet. You need to bake it within 15 minutes after shaping, or it will begin to crack. Bake at 300 degrees for about one hour or until it achieves the golden brown color you want. Once the fake bread cools, you can use a pastry brush to coat it with egg yolks for a more realistic appearance and then apply several coats of varnish to keep it shiny. This will also keep the bugs away.
