Department of Defense Appropriations Act 2008
- The act establishes money for various funds, including the Defense Working Capital Funds, the Defense Health Program and Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Fund. One of the specific areas funded is for the establishment of a National Ballistic Missile Defense System.
- Certain countries are given special provisions for DoD projects in the Act. This includes $350 million for construction project in Kuwait and also a prohibition of using any funds in North Korea, unless specifically allowed by Congress by another Act.
- The act was originally sponsored by Representative John Murtha of Pennsylvania. It passed the Senate on Oct. 3, 2007 and was signed into law by President George W. Bush on Nov. 13, 2007.
