"Sesame Street" remains one of the most popular kids' shows on television. If Cookie Monster is your child's favorite "Sesame Street" character, consider choosing him as the inspiration for a birthday party. The big blue monster offers lots of inspiration for all of the birthday party details. Youngsters will squeal with delight when they arrive at the Cookie Monster birthday party.

    Invitations

    • Blue felt works well for creating a homemade invitation. Make a template of Cookie Monster's head to use for cutting out the invitations. Once the blue felt is cut into the shape of Cookie Monster, glue wiggly eyes and a mouth cut from black felt to each face. Glue the felt Cookie Monster head to a piece of card stock cut into the same shape. This gives the felt stability and allows you to write the party details on the card stock.

    Games

    • A cookie toss game is easy to make at home. Cut several cookies out of cardboard. You can decorate them or let the kids decorate them before the game. Print out a picture of Cookie Monster and glue it to the front of a cardboard box. The kids try to toss their cardboard cookies into the box. Another option is to cut a large piece of cardboard into the shape of Cookie Monster's head with his mouth cut out. The kids toss the cookies through his mouth to earn a point.

A cookie relay is another use for the cardboard cookies. Each team needs a spatula and a cookie sheet at the finish line. The first player on each team places his cookie on the spatula. He walks down the length of the play field and back while balancing the cookie on the spatula. Back at the starting line, he places his cookie onto the team cookie tray before passing the spatula to the next player.

    Crafts

    • Plain blue party hats work well for creating Cookie Monster party hats. Let the kids assemble these simple hats. They glue two large wiggly eyes on each hat. They'll also need a piece of black felt or construction paper so they can cut out a mouth for Cookie Monster. The mouths are also glued to the hat to finish them.

    Cookie Monster Cupcakes

    • Cupcakes decorated to look like Cookie Monster are easy to make. Cover the cupcakes with blue frosting using a grass decorating tip. This specialty tip has several small openings in it and will make the frosting resemble fur. Add two white wafer candies for the eyes. A dab of chocolate frosting in the middle of each wafer finishes the eyes. Stick a cookie near the bottom of Cookie Monster's face to make it look like the cookie is hanging out of his mouth.

    Favors

    • Sesame Street items are available at both toy stores and party supply stores. Look for things such as stickers, coloring books, crayons, temporary tattoos, stuffed animals and small toys with Cookie Monster on them. A blue cellophane bag works well to hold the smaller items and keeps with the Cookie Monster color scheme.
