    Using Time Machine (OSX 10.5 onward)

    • 1). Plug in your external hard drive.

    • 2). Click on the Time Machine logo in your doc or in the top of your screen, near the volume control.

    • 3). Click on "Set Up Time Machine" when Time Machine opens with a message stating that no Time Machine has been set up.

    • 4). Click "Choose Backup Disk."

    • 5). Select the hard drive you have plugged in. Click on "Use for Backup." Time Machine will begin to back up in a moment.

    Using SuperDuper!

    • 1). Plug in your external hard drive.

    • 2). Launch SuperDuper!

    • 3). Select the drive to be copied (i.e. your Macintosh HD) in the left-hand drop-down box.

    • 4). Select your external hard drive in the right-hand drop-down box.

    • 5). Click "Copy Now." The backup will commence.
