    Disable Backup Process in OSX

    • 1). Close out the iTunes application on your Apple computer. Hold down the "Ctrl" key, and click on the iTunes icon in the application dock. Click on "Quit" and wait a few seconds for iTunes to shut down.

    • 2). Click on the "Finder" icon on the far left end of the application dock. Select "Applications" inside the "Finder" window. Locate and open the "Terminal" application.

    • 3). Type "defaults write com.apple.iTunes DeviceBackupsDisabled -bool true" into the Terminal application's window. Press the "Return" key. This disables the iPhone's backup process. Close out the Terminal window.

    • 4). Click on the iTunes icon in the application dock. Connect your iPhone to your computer via your USB data cable.

    Disable iPhone Backup Process in Windows

    • 1). Close out the iTunes program. Select the "File" menu in the upper left corner of the iTunes window. Click on "Quit iTunes" in the drop-down menu.

    • 2). Click on the "Start" menu in the lower left corner of your desktop. Click on "Run" and type "%CommonProgramFiles%\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\defaults.exe write com.apple.iTunes AutomaticDeviceBackupsDisabled -bool true." Press the "Enter" key to disable the iPhone backup process.

    • 3). Go to the "Start" menu, select "All Programs" and click on iTunes in the menu. Connect your iPhone to your PC with the USB cable that came with your phone.
