How to Remove Unneeded Background Programs
- 1). Log on to your computer and click on the "Start" button. Choose "Run" from the list of options.
- 2). Type "msconfig" in the box and click "OK." Click on the "Start-up" tab to see a list of the programs that start each time your computer boots up.
- 3). Examine the list of programs to determine which programs really need to start when your computer starts. Examples of programs that need to run in the background include anti-virus software and spyware scanners.
- 4). Uncheck the box next to any programs that do not need to start each time your computer is restarted. Programs like Adobe Acrobat and Music Match jukebox are generally set to start with your computer, and removing those programs from the "Start-up" tab will help your computer run more efficiently. After those programs have been unchecked, click on the "OK" button and then click "Yes" to restart your computer. When your computer restarts, only the programs that are still checked will start.
