    • 1). Log on to your computer, and click on the "Start" button. Choose "Control Panel" from the menu, then choose "Performance and Maintenance."

    • 2). Double-click on the "Power Options" icon, and review the current settings. If you are using a laptop, there is a power scheme designed just for laptops, and choosing that setting can resolve many hibernation issues.

    • 3). Go to the website of your display adapter, and download the most recent driver. Outdated display adapters also can cause problems with response time and hibernation in Windows XP. Downloading a new driver can resolve these issues and improve response time as well.
