Formerly a part of Yugoslavia, Slovenia is one of the smallest countries in Europe, as well as one of its newest, having been in existence as a sovereign nation only since 1991. Despite its small size, however, the country has a lot to offer tourists, from the mountains of the Julian Alps to the tiny bit of shoreline on the Adriatic Sea. For nightlife fans, most of the action is unsurprisingly centered in the capital city, Ljubljana.

    Klub K4

    • In existence since 1989, Klub K4 is one of the Slovenian capital's main spots for electronic music. A student-run organization affiliated with the city university, the club has a decidedly young vibe to it, and the themes and styles of music vary from night to night---though if it has a strong, pulsating rhythm and you can dance to it, you can probably hear it at Klub K4. The club is open between September and June each year. Klub K4 also occasionally hosts live concerts.

    Club SubSub

    • Club SubSub is situated in the middle of Tivoli Park, Ljubljana's main green space. It is famous for being the first nightclub to open to the public in the former Yugoslavia. Today, it features all sorts of underground dance music, including drum and bass, nu rave, dubstep, and more traditional genres such as funk, jazz, soul, and hip-hop. During the day, the club space functions as a workshop and music center for local DJs and graphic designers. Thus, it is a popular hangout spot for the youth of Ljubljana both during the day and at night, when the party gets underway.
