Ring.tones+ iPhone App Review

Ring.tones+ (US$0.99) is a new app that includes more than 100 ringtones for your iPhone. You’ll be impressed by the interface, but are the limited sounds enough to earn Ring.tones+ a spot on our list of the best iPhone ringtone apps?
Cute ringtone app
I was immediately impressed by the super-cute interface -- this is like no other ringtone app I’ve tested.
The illustrations are nicely done, although it does take a few minutes to figure out how this app works. Luckily, there is a helpful how-to guide that you can access from the top right-hand corner.
The main page of the interface features a bunch of red ‘+’ marks. Tap any one, and the Ring.tones+ app brings up a list of available ringtones. There are more than 100 ringtones available, but that app is limited to sounds, tones, and alarms -- there are no music ringtones included.
However, Ring.tones+ does include some unique sounds. I particularly like ‘Dark Lord,’ a Darth Vader-like ringtone, and ‘Fanfare,’ a horn arrangement. The app also includes the ubiquitous fart ringtone, along with various animal noises, gunshots, and alarms.
Tapping on any of the ringtones will transfer it to your homepage. From there, you can tap the ringtone to preview, or tap on the bell icon to add the ringtone to your iPhone. As with most ringtone apps, you’ll need to save the ringtone to a computer and then sync your iPhone with iTunes (check out this how-to article if you are unsure about this process).
Ring.tones+ will send you an email with your selected ringtone, although it uses the iPhone’s Mail app, so make sure you have that set up correctly.
The Bottom Line
Ring.tones+ is a seriously cute app, but some users may be disappointed with the limited selection. To be fair, the app includes more than 100 ringtones, but there are many similar sounds. You should definitely check out Ring.tones+ if you like using ambient sounds or basic alarms for your phone. If not, Ringtone Designer Pro may be a better bet. Overall rating: 3.5 stars out of 5.
What You’ll Need
Ring.tones+ is compatible with the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. It requires iPhone OS 3.1.3 or later.
