What is the Proper Way to Mop Floors?

    • 1). Sweep the floor area thoroughly with a bristle broom, removing as much dirt as you can. After sweeping use a dust mop to pick up soil the other broom may have left behind.

    • 2). Place two buckets near a sink or other clean water source. Fill both buckets with cool water.

    • 3). Add your floor cleaning solution to one of the buckets, according to label directions. For wood floors or natural stone, use only cleaners designed especially for these floor types as both are sensitive to cleaners.

    • 4). Move the buckets and your mop to a corner of the room, furthest away from the door. This is where you will begin mopping.

    • 5). Place your mop in the bucket that contains the floor cleaner and water. Remove the mop and wring it out until you can get no more liquid out of it.

    • 6). Mop a 6 feet square section of flooring. Dunk the mop head back into the bucket of cleaner and wring it out before doing the next 6 feet square section. Continue like this until you've done the whole room.

    • 7). Rinse the floor, unless you are using a no-rinse cleaning solution, by using the clean water in the rinse bucket. Wring out the mop just as you did before each time, and work in 6 feet square sections. When you are done, wipe towels over the floor to dry it.
