Indoor Games to Play with Christian Kids

Whether as a warm-up activity at a Sunday school class or a time-filler at a Christian camp, indoor games provide hours of wholesome fun for the kids and help them to relax and get to know each other. The best way to make the games fun for the kids is to be a little over the top in your own actions. So, have fun and be hyper and animated. - A great active song for young children is "I'm in the Lord's Army." The song's lyrics can be acted out in motions that include marching like a soldier, flying like a plane, riding a horse and shooting a gun. At the end, the kids sing about being the Lord's army and salute.
- Test how much your Sunday school class remembers from previous lessons with a Bible quiz activity. Use a game show theme such as "Wheel of Fortune" or "Jeopardy!" and create questions for the kids to answer. If the team of kids cannot remember the answer right away, give them five Scripture lifelines, where they can search their Bibles for the answer. As an extra incentive, offer the winning team some candy, stickers or some other small prize.
- Help kids get to know each other and laugh at themselves by playing the chubby bunny game. Purchase bags of marshmallows and have a contest to see which kid can stuff the most marshmallows in his mouth while saying the phrase "chubby bunny" in between each piece. Be sure to have a trash can on hand for the winner to empty his mouth at the end, just in case he haves too many to swallow.
- If it's raining at camp and the group can't go outside, bring the fun indoors with some funny skits. Divide the kids into groups of four to five and give them a random object such as a roll of toilet paper, a clothes hanger or a plunger. Give the groups 20 minutes to think up a skit that incorporates the item and then let the kids act out their skits in front of the group.
