The word anxiety is a pretty big word, encompassing any feeling of tension, uneasiness, or apprehension.
So it would make sense to say that all anxiety is not the same.
Each of us suffer different symptoms, have differing levels of susceptibility, and have different personal triggers that send us on our descent into panic.
So why then would you look for one all-powerful anxiety treatment? Why would one simple book or manual think it can cure each of our anxieties, when our personal anxieties are all different in the first place? What triggers your stress might be stress itself, stress stemming from your day job or even your home life.
My attacks might be borne from social situations -- from speaking in public to fear of embarrassment.
Each of us must look within ourselves and find what it is that truly ails us.
Then and only then can we confront the problem head-on and really make progress in our quest for peace of mind.
Unfortunately, this can be hard to do.
Many professionals recommend the following steps: 1.
When you feel anxious, stop and think why.
Do you feel trepidation over an upcoming obligation? Are you jittery when you come under the gun at work? Are you tense around specific people? 2.
Stop and take a deep breath.
Take a minute to clear your thoughts.
If you feel tension coming on, excuse yourself and try to employ a deep breathing exercise.
Visualize success.
See yourself getting through whatever it is that is causing you apprehension.
3.
Take baby steps.
It's simply the old addage of one day at a time.
Thinking about about too much at once can be overpowering.
4.
Exercise regularly and eat a well-balanced diet.
Avoid caffeine and if you can, cigarettes.
Many of us know these steps and employ them on a daily basis.
But isn't there more we can do to help us discover the cause of our panic attacks? Can we learn how to overcome panic attacks and ultimately preventing panic attacks from happening in the first place?
