Giving them good diet, quality sleep, and no illness is a way of keeping cockatiels healthy.
Always follow the natural daylight schedule for your bird.
They will need to sleep in a clean place where there is not much disturbance and noise.
In keeping cockatiels healthy, diet should be considered and supplements such as fruits and vegetables, edible weeds, flowers, pellets and other healthy, fat free and nutritious human foods are highly advised by veterinarians for birds.
Avoid foods like chocolate, avocado, alcohol and caffeine, onion and garlic and lactose containing products as they can cause toxicosis and should NOT be given to cockatiels.
Naturally, cockatiels have the tendency of concealing their sickness for as long as they can.
Their thinking is that if they show at least one sign of weakness, they will become victims of predators very quickly.
One way of keeping cockatiels healthy is by learning to do daily observations on your bird and its activity so you will know and learn the normal behavior that it has.
If you notice anything that is not normal or is weird, you should immediately draw your attention to your bird as it can be sick and cockatiel's health can get worse really fast.
There are a lot of signs and different symptoms of sickness to look out for in your cockatiel bird pet in keeping cockatiels healthy.
Be on your guard at all times for abnormalities that you see in their breathing, sleeping patterns, feather appearance, growth and droppings.
There can also be changes in the usual daily activities of your pet cockatiel such as whistling, playing, interaction with other birds and human beings and preening.
Disorientation, hunched over posture, energy level and weight loss can also be signs of sickness.
Bleeding, swelling of body parts, presence of body discharges, vomiting and loss of appetite should also be the things you should be watchful for in keeping cockatiels healthy.
If any of the mentioned systems are evident to your bird, take him to the nearest Avian veterinarian that you trust right away so treatment can be given that instant.
