How to Convert AVI Files to iPhone
- 1). Open Handbrake. If you do not already have the application installed on your computer, you can download it. Handbrake is a free, cross-platform conversion utility.
- 2). Select "Source" from the top left of the application window and select the AVI file you'd like to convert. Once selected, click "OK."
- 3). Select "Toggle Presets" from the top right of the application window. This will slide out a drawer of preconfigured video output settings. There are number of presets for Apple devices. Select "iPhone" under the Apple heading.
- 4). Select a spot on your computer to save the output file under the "Destination" header in the main application window.
- 5). Adjust your quality settings as needed. You can adjust quality by limiting the output file to a certain file size or aim for a certain constant through out the conversion process. There are a handful of advanced settings that can be adjusted, but to ensure the file will play on your iPhone, it's best to leave them as they are unless you know exactly what you are changing.
- 6). Select "Start" to begin the conversion process. It can take up to a couple hours depending on the original file size and quality settings. Once the conversion completes, you will be notified of a successful conversion. Add the newly created MP4 file to your iTunes library and sync your iPhone to transfer it to the device.
