When the weather warms up and the days get longer bicyclists can come out in force along with the crazy little scooter like things. The hard core cyclists wonder if they really must share the bike lanes with those things. The answer of course, is like most other things, it depends. But no matter what your opinion of the e-bike is, there are here to stay and will most likely increase in numbers.

The year round biking purest may not appreciate the motorized bicyclist that look like a combination of scooter and bike, but the e-bike has a legal right to be in the bike lane. They are also a wonderful alternative for those people who want to save money on fuel and be kind to the environment. Some people who may not be in good physical condition can take advantage of the e-bike to commute to work. They are also great for those who must wear suits to work and don't have the luxury of being able to shower and change clothes when they arrive at work.

Because they reduce energy consumption and pollution, the government encourages their use. The government allows their use without having either an operator's license or vehicle driver's license. Because no license is required, vehicle insurance is also not required. This makes using the e-bike an even more inviting as a primary commuting vehicle. Overall the advantages of the e-bike seem overwhelming, as long as what you have is really an e-bike.

An e-bike has become a slang term used by people to describe a bicycle with a motor, but in reality, as any Toronto lawyer will tell you it is a legal term. In Ontario brain injury, catastrophic injury, and e-bikes are all legal terms defined in the statute. An e-bike is defined as being able to travel no faster than 32 KPH on level ground, has pedals affixed to it, can operate solely by pedal power, the engine output is 500W or less, and it has a label in French and English that the vehicle is a power assisted bicycle.

Many people remove the pedals and keep them under the seat because they don't use them. If you do, you don't have an e-bike, you have a motor vehicle that you are operating without insurance or a license. These events can cause you to need a lawyer in Toronto for a very unpleasant experience.
