How Do I Convert Videos in Windows for my iPod?
- 1). Windows Media Player is the default movie player for the Windows or Vista operating system. You can convert video files from Windows Media to an iTunes compatible format with the help of the Crazi Video media converter. First, download Crazi Video from the Riverpast.com website (see Resources). Launch the program, and add your Windows Media file by selecting the "WMV" file extension from the tool bar. Select the file that you wish to convert, and click the button in the lower right to "Open" the file. Click "Output Format" to select "iPod," and select the file you wish to convert from the list. A window for "Convert File" will open, and from the "Output Directory," "Browse" to select "Add to iTunes for Syncing." Adjacent there is a box to "Add to Playlist," which you will then need to provide with a name. The system is now ready to process your conversion and add it to your iTunes playlist.
- 2). QuickTime is the default player for the Apple operating system, but it is also available for use on the Windows operating system. To convert QuickTime video for use with iTunes you must have QuickTime Pro installed. Once you have installed this program, from the menu at the top left of your screen, select "File," and drop down to "Open File." Select the appropriate QuickTime file that you would like to convert, and then select "Export File;" you will be given several options, and select "Movie to iPod (320x240)." QuickTime will now convert your file, and display a progress bar which will close when the process is complete. Once your conversion completes, the converted file will appear on your desktop. Drag and drop the file into your iTunes library.
- 3). Real Movie is another popular video player whose files you may wish to convert to use with iTunes and iPod. You can convert files from Real Movie to iTunes format by using the ffmpegX converter. Install and open the converter, and a window will open. Select the file that you wish to open by clicking the "open" button. Rename the file as appropriate in the box below, and select the appropriate settings from the "Video" tab. (The tab is pre-populated with preset settings, but you may adjust them if you wish.) Click the "Encode" button at the lower right of the window, and your file will be encoded appropriately. The file will appear on your desktop, and you may drag and drop it into your iTunes library.
