How to Hide Desktop Icons in Windows XP

    • 1). Power up your computer.

    • 2). Minimize all applications, or resize the windows so that you can see the desktop.

    • 3). Right-click on the Desktop.

    • 4). On the menu that pops up, highlight the first option, "Arrange Icons By".

    • 5). This will expand the menu to another box, and you should see the option "Show Desktop Items" with a check mark beside it. Click on "Show Desktop Items" to uncheck it.

    • 6). To show the desktop icons again, go through the steps again to put the check mark beside "Show Desktop Items"

    • 7). Optional Step: If you right click on the taskbar, choose "Toolbars", then choose "Desktop", all of your desktop icons will be available from the taskbar, so that you still have access to all your icons without having them clutter the screen.
