So you may be wondering what are curcumin's medical benefits? The length of this article would probably not do it enough justice, as there's that much data available.
Many more of us are on the lookout for things we can take that will boost our health and vitality in a natural way.
Hence the spotlight on plants like curcumin which is an extract of the plant turmeric.
This plant may be familiar to those of you who prepare or cook Indian food, as it's a staple ingredient of curry powder.
It also has a long and credible history as a medicinal herb.
It was long used in India by such ancient and still practiced medical methods commonly referred to as Ayurdevic.
Back then this plant featured highly in many of their rituals and ceremonies so high praise indeed.
But, curcumin's medical benefits have not been lost.
Today, modern methods of extraction have made taking it more easily and one way is to take it as a dietary supplement or as part of a nutritional pill.
While it has been studied and researched in connection with a whole host of conditions and illnesses, which I'll mention shortly, perhaps the main reason in taking it is to ward of some of those same diseases.
That old adage of prevention is better than the cure is succinct and to the point, this herb extracts qualities have a very good preventative and protective effect.
High in antioxidants, antibacterial and anti inflammatory, these are potent allies that your immune system can make use of.
So, curcumin's medical benefits have helped or eased conditions in several fields like type 2 diabetes, osteoarthritis, some types of cancers, acne sufferers and with certain liver and digestive disorders.
That list is by no means complete and sure, studies do vary in their approach and much more needs to be done, but it looks promising.
While that continues, we should be watchful and if it has spurned you on to take a curcumin supplement then you have made a wise choice, in adding to your armory of those things you do to maintain optimum health.
