How to Make a Landscape Painting in Photoshop
- 1). Start Adobe Photoshop, and click the “File” menu, then select “New.”
- 2). Type “MyLandscape” into the “Name” box. Enter dimensions in the “Width” and “Height” boxes. For a general landscape orientation for the painting, make sure the “Width” number is larger than the “Height,” such as “11” and “8.5” respectively. Click “inches” from the two measurement menus. Click the “OK” button.
- 3). Click the paintbrush tool on the middle of the “Tools” bar on the left side of the canvas. Double-click into the colored square on the bottom of the “Tools” bar and choose a color for the first part of the landscape, such as a green for the grass, then click “OK.”
- 4). Position the brush on the canvas and draw the bottom part of the landscape. Vary your brush strokes and the paint’s appearance by clicking the small second-from-the-left drop-down menu on the left side of the toolbar. Choose a fuzzy dot brush head for landscape imagery that is far away or reduce the “Size” slider for finer, detailed work.
- 5). Change colors in the “Color Picker” and begin to draw the main section of the landscape, such as saguaro, trees, houses or open desert. Use the “Opacity” slider on the toolbar at the top of the screen to vary how thick or transparent the paint appears. The lower the “Opacity” number, the more see-through the paint looks, which may work well for layering, such as with adding rain droplets to grass.
- 6). Work your way up the landscape to complete the top, with sky, clouds or your preferred design. Use different colors and brush strokes to complete the image.
- 7). Click the “File” menu and select “Save” to save the landscape painting.
