Waheeda Rehman is a great actress, who portrays beauty and sensuousness in the true sense.
She is considered to be one of the famous movie stars of the Indian Film industry.
She hails from a conventional Muslim family, which resided in Chengalpattu, a city in Tamil Nadu.
Acting in what was known as the golden era of the Hindi movie industry; she made a mark for herself through her brilliant performance.
Though she wished to follow a profession as a doctor, she could not do so due to her bad health.
Waheeda Rehman was however trained to become a classical Bharatanatyam dancer.
With the support of her parents, she started acting in films in Chennai, where she did about four movies.
In her movie Rojulu Marayi, she did a folk dance, which became an instant hit.
While she was basking in the glory of her success in Hyderabad, she was chosen by Guru Dutt to play a role of a vamp in his movie C.

Once this movie became a great success, Waheeda Rehman, was cast in a leading role in the next movie Pyaasa in the year 1957.
With hints of being linked with director Guru Dutt, she drifted apart from him after the release of Kaagaz Ke Phool in the year 1959.
However, they got back together in the 1960 movie Chaudhvin Ka Chand.
Yet another movie that Waheeda and Dutt did together was Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam.
This movie was not received well at the Berlin Film Festival.
After the death of Guru Dutt, she went ahead and made many successful movies with other well-acclaimed directors.
Her role in Guide, won her rave reviews and the Filmfare Award for best actress.
The 1968 movie Neel Kamal too was a major success.
She went on to win the National Award for her sensational performance in Reshma Aur Shera.
However, a few of the films did not do well.
She then married Kamaljit, her co-star in Shagun, and was blessed with two children Sohail and Kashvi.
Waheeda Rehman started acting again after 12 years, when she moved back to Mumbai following the death of her husband.
This time she played the elderly roles as mother or grandmother.
Some of the well-received movies were Om Jai Jagadish, Water, Rang De Basanti and Delhi 6.
Waheed participated in audience discussion about her most triumphant movies in a Waheeda Rehman film presentation.
Though her most of her fans still consider Khamoshi as her most successful movie, there are many others who can never forget her graceful performance in other films such as Teesri Kasam, Guide and Pyaasa.
