How to Replace iPod 5th Generation Power Port
- 1). Power off your iPod and insert the tip of your case opener tool in the seam where the front and back half of the unit meet. Work your way around the sides of the iPod until the two halves separate.
- 2). Unplug the battery ribbon cable that runs from the battery in the back half of the iPod to a port in the main circuit board in the front half. Set the back half of the iPod aside.
- 3). Locate the rectangular in the front half of the iPod. It sits atop the main circuit board. Lift the hard drive up from the bottom and unplug the thick hard drive ribbon from its port on the circuit board. Set the hard drive aside.
- 4). Unplug all ribbon cable that connect on the top of the iPod board.
- 5). Remove the six screws (three on each side) from the panel that surrounds the circuit board. Remove the panel and set it aside.
- 6). Lift the circuit board out of the iPod housing and turn it over. The power jack will now be visible on the bottom of the board.
- 7). Use your soldering iron to remove the power port from its connectors on the board. Set the power jack aside.
- 8). Fit a new power jack in the old one's place and solder the connectors to the board. Reverse the steps for reassembly.
