How to Sandblast a Swimming Pool
- 1). Drain the pool and wait for it to dry. Put on protective clothing, gloves and protective eye goggles. Wear a respirator to keep from breathing in the dust.
- 2). Close the air shut-off valve, sand-flow control valve and the nozzle-end shut-off valve.
- 3). Remove the filler valve and fill the tank from the top with dry sand. Use a type of sand recommended by the manufacturer.
- 4). Replace the filler valve and hold it in place while you open the air valve, allowing the tank to fully pressurize. This may take 20 to 30 seconds. Once pressurized the air pressure will hold the filler valve in place.
- 5). Point the blaster hose perpendicular to the pool surface. Hold it 2 feet away. Open the nozzle-end shut-off valve on the end of the blaster hose. Gradually open the sand-flow control valve until you have enough sand for the desired smoothing effect.
- 6). Slowly sandblast the pool using a sweeping motion. Keep the blaster hose perpendicular and 2 feet from the surface at all times.
- 7). Gradually close the sand-flow control valve and switch the nozzle-end shut-off valve to closed once complete. Open the pressure-relief valve to relieve pressure in the tank, and make sure the air shut-off valve is in the closed position when you do this.
- 8). Use a vacuum to suck up dust in and around the pool. Sweep up any dust left over using a broom and dust pan.
- 9). Clean the pool using a garden hose.
