An industry certification can lead to a higher salary and respect from industry peers. Auditor certification programs consist of curriculums tailored towards a field of expertise and include a final exam for certification. - The Certified Financial Services Auditor certification applies to audit principles and practices in the accounting, insurance and banking industries. The Institute of Internal Auditors offers study materials in the form of study guides and computer based training CD-ROM software which prepares candidates for certification. CFSA candidates must have a bachelor's (four-year) degree or equivalent and a minimum of two years of post-secondary education.
- The Certified Government Auditing Professional certification is designed for professionals who perform public sector internal auditing. Certification addresses public fund accounting, grant funding, legislative budgeting, and auditing fiscal management programs. The prerequisite for obtaining this certification is two years of auditing experience in a government environment and completion of an "Experience Verification Form" signed by an applicable government official or supervisor.

There are no prerequisites for this certification.
- In the safety and environmental health industry, the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Auditor certification provides professionals with in-depth knowledge to examine safety programs according to compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OSHA) standards. The prerequisite for obtaining a certification in this career field is a bachelor's degree or higher with a minimum of 20 audits conducted before applying for certification.
