How to Glam Up a Side Ponytail
- 1). Wash and condition your hair with products that are tailored to your hair type. Use a towel to blot, not rub, the moisture out of your hair. Comb through with a wide-tooth comb to remove any tangles.
- 2). Apply a heat protection spray to your tresses and comb through to distribute evenly. The spray will protect your hair not only from damage caused by heated styling tools, but also from ultraviolet rays.
- 3). Dry your hair with a hairdryer set to medium heat. Use a paddle brush to pull through your hair to straighten as you dry.
- 4). Pull your bangs forward and across your forehead toward the side where you will secure the ponytail. Longer bangs can drape over one eye for a peekaboo effect or drape across the eyebrow line. Pin the bangs behind the back of your ear. Spray the bangs lightly with hairspray to prevent them from falling forward.
- 5). Brush your dry hair to the left or right side of your head. Secure your hair in a low ponytail, just below your ear, with an elastic ponytail holder. Gather a 1-inch section of hair from the ponytail and wrap it once around the ponytail holder. Insert a bobby pin on the underside of the ponytail to secure the hair around the holder. This will conceal the ponytail holder, giving your side ponytail a more sophisticated appearance.
- 6). Heat a 1-inch-diameter curling iron to the hottest setting. Separate a 1- to 2-inch section of hair from the tail of the ponytail and insert between the clamp and barrel of the curling iron. Slide the curling iron down until it is at the tip of the hair. Roll the curling iron upward until you reach the ponytail holder. Release the hair and let it fall from the curling iron. Continue separating hair from the tail of the ponytail and curling until the entire tail is full of curls.
- 7). Comb through the tail of the ponytail to blend the curls together. Lightly spray the tail with hairspray to secure the curls.
