Alex Rodriguez and Tiger Woods have many things in common.

Just to be clear, I am not talking about their previously failed marriages and penchants for cheating on their wives. I'm talking about their practices as professional athletes.

First, they are two of the most well-known names in their given sports, and its arguable that they could be the best to ever play their respective sports, and their success has been credited to the ways that they train.

But there is one striking common thread between these two - both of them have ripped, muscular forearms that seem to be reinforced with steel cables.

Don't believe it? Next time Tiger is playing on the links, watch as he picks a club from his golf bag - his forearms are pumped and ripped. Next time you see A-rod at the plate, check out the massive contouring of his forearms. Check out how they ripple as he drums his finger on the protective bar at the front of the dugout. His forearms are HUGE and it is a direct link to his success at the plate.

These men know the importance of strong forearms for their sports. But do you?

The Importance of Strong Forearms

In athletics, force is generated by the legs from the ground up, from the core out, and through the hands into the sporting implement, in this case the club or bat.

If the hands and forearms are weak, there is no way to take the power that the legs and core produce and efficiently transfer it into the bat. That means you are going to hit fewer homeruns and have more strikeouts and pop-ups.

However, if your forearms and grip are strong, you can become an offensive machine. Stronger hands lead to more hits, more extra base hits and most importantly, more home runs.

Effective grip and forearm training requires a well rounded approach coming from many different angles. It also requires periodization and focus on the many different ways the forearms and hands can generate strength.

If you want to hit for power this season, forearm training is the missing part of the puzzle. Don't let a weak set of hands stop you from being a leader on your team and feared name in your league.
