The Wizard's First Rule written by Terry Goodkind is the first book in The Sword of Truth series.
Out of all the books in the series it is by far the most memorable.
Although this book is very unrealistic and completely over the top fantasy based, it is actually a very good read even if you are not really into the fantasy genre.
This book starts out as most fantasy novels with an unsuspecting young man who lives in a peaceful town that slowly becomes a hero.
As the novel unfolds at the beginning of the book, he slowly starts to realize his destiny and that others have a plan for him that he never though imaginable.
Sounds like just about every other fantasy book that you have ever read, right? Well, believe it or not, it is still actually very fun to read.
With a predictable plot, it is often times hard to keep a captive audience.
However, Terry Goodkind does an amazing job of keeping the readers attention with moderate twists throughout the book and some very likable characters.
Although Goodkind picked Richard, the main character, to have pretty much no character flaws, some of the other characters he threw in there are absolutely hilarious.
The character named Zedd is absolutely fantastic in this book displaying immense magic and a great sense of humor when dealing with the younger characters in this book.
Kahlan is also a very likable female character that gives the book a little bit more of an appeal to women.
In addition, Cara comes into the book near the end and gives a very humorous adaption of a character that constantly tries to be evil, but cannot help herself to do some good.
Overall, this book is a good read for those that are really into the fantasy genre.
For those who have never read fantasy before, there are some better choices out there to read first to get you interested in the genre.
However, this is a very likable book that is sure to make you happy by the end of the book.
It is very optimistic in a genre that may not always give you that feel-good type of emotion.
