How to Update My Virtual Memory
- 1). Click "Start" and launch "Control Panel." Select "System and Security" followed by "System." Click "Advanced System Settings" on the left pane.
- 2). Click "Settings" under the "Performance" section. Select the "Advanced" tab and click "Change" under the "Virtual Memory" section.
- 3). Deselect the "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives" check box. Select the local hard drive(s) you wish to use for virtual memory. Click the "Custom size" option, which allows you to input a custom amount of virtual memory space.
- 4). Input the minimal and the maximum size to be borrowed and click "Set" to update your new virtual memory settings. Maximum size allowed varies depending on which version of Windows 7 you use. For example, the maximum size allowed in most Windows 7 32-bit versions is 4GB (Starter Edition only allows 2GB). On the other hand, the 64-bit Ultimate edition allows a maximum size of 192GB, with a minimum of 16MB for all versions. Click "OK" to exit the "System Properties" window.
