Definition:

The myelogram is a diagnostic imaging technique that uses an injection of dye into the spinal canal then takes an x-ray, and often a CT scan.

Myelograms are especially good for seeing problems located at the nerve roots, and they can detect the presence of herniated disks, arthritis, infections and tumors.

Myleograms are generally done prior to spinal fusion surgery.

Examples: The doctor may order a myelogram to help confirm a diagnosis for your back pain.
