iPhone 4 Photo Specs
- The iPhone 4 takes 5.0 megapixel photos that come out to a resolution of 2592 X 1936 pixels. Photos taken by the phone's camera are of high enough quality to print --- a 5.0 megapixel image can be printed as an 8 X 10 inch photo without noticeable pixelation. This is a marked improvement from the original iPhone, which in 2007 sported a 2.0 megapixel camera.
- While previous iPhones were virtually incapable of low-light photography, the iPhone 4 is equipped with an LED flash that enables users to light their subjects. Unlike traditional camera flashes, though, this small LED bulb is limited by its slight size and power. It may result in washed-out images, and the quality of images may not be as sharp as when lit by external light sources.
- The iPhone 4 gives users the ability to selectively focus on specific parts of an image before taking a picture. Just as a traditional camera lens gives the photographer the ability to change the focus of a photograph, the iPhone 4 camera allows users to choose whether to focus on the foreground or the background. By tapping an area on the screen, the camera focuses on that area, adjusting the exposure automatically.
- The 5.0 megapixel camera isn't the only camera on the iPhone 4 --- the phone also features a camera on the front of the phone. While it does not take the same quality photos as the rear camera, this camera enables users to take self-portraits while looking at themselves on the screen. Implemented primarily to enable Apple's "FaceTime" video calling feature, this rudimentary camera makes it easier for users to photograph themselves.
