What I am talking about is blogging communities. There are many of them out there to choose from, but be sure to choose wisely. While there is an abundance of free communities you could participate in, these tend to be rather loose. Because they are free most tend to go unregulated and un moderated. This of course leads to a mountain of spam. This is not an effective environment in which you can promote your blog, or anything else for that matter.
To find a community where to the members actually read, comment on a share each others work you are going to have to join a paid community. Most are priced very reasonably so that anyone can afford to be a part of one even if they have no budget.
The thing that makes these blogging communities so powerful is leverage.
When you are promoting your own stuff by yourself, your reach is limited to depth of your own network. But once you are a part of a community, your network grows to encompass the network of all the other members who share your work.
The only catch is that you have to be willing to give before you can get. This just means to help the other bloggers, read comment and share there stuff. This way when you have something to share they will be more than happy to do the same for you.
This is how you grow your network, make friends and build powerful alliances, without which your blog is doomed to failure.
