Choosing Effective Headlines For Your Blog

103 13
Choosing a headline is a way to grab attention and to get people to read your blog.
Who are you writing for? If you are writing about how the dog tore up your good shoes or how you had to drive the kids to yet another sporting event, then you are talking about yourself.
You should be writing for your customers.
You should be writing about how to solve a problem your customer had this week or talk about great information you discovered that would make your customers' life easier.
Sending out emails to your customers is good.
But many people are inundated with emails these days.
How can you get your customers to open your emails? The trick is the headlines.
What you title your blog post or your emails is what will grab attention.
Are you looking to grab the attention of the search engines through Search Engine Optimization or SEO? Or are you looking to grab the attention of your customers through an emotional response.
If you are going for SEO, then keywords need to be your focus.
You need to research to see what the best keywords for your market are.
For SEO, you must use effective keywords that your potential customers are typing into the search engines to find you.
You must also place these effective keywords in the first 3 to 6 words of your title, and then again at the beginning of your first sentence of your first paragraph.
If you are going for an emotional responding customer, then a response that they can relate to personally will hit your target, one that will touch them emotionally or intrigues them.
You can relate your topic to a local news story to also get more traffic to your site.
Read other posts.
Read you competitions' blog posts and notice their titles.
Are they using long tail keywords? Are they connecting to local events? You can Google keywords and see the blog post titles that are listed.
Make notes.
Jot down your favorites to trigger ideas for your blog post titles.
There are many great posts about choosing an effective headline.
In one post, they recommended a site that will help rate your headline.
Headlines can appeal to us intellectually, empathetic, or spiritually.
Chose how you will affect your readers.
Sometimes it helps to walk away from your blog post for a day and come back to it.
You will have a fresh mind and a fresh outlook.
Always be professional.
You are a business owner.
Putting down people will not grow your business.
It is better to lift up people, to educate them and to inform them, about your business and how your business will help them.
You want them to want more: more of your business and how you can help them.
