How to Repair a Cracked Bathtub
- 1). Clean in and around the crack in your bathtub with a bathroom cleaner.
- 2). Dry the area around the crack with a towel. Be sure the area is completely dry.
- 3). Smooth any rough areas in or around the crack with sandpaper or a tungsten carbide cutter. Sandpaper works for a small crack. A tungsten carbide cutter is for bigger jobs. These cutters can easily be found at home-improvement stores. If you're using a tungsten carbide cutter, slide it into the crack and smooth the edges as you would with sandpaper.
- 4). Brush up any pieces of porcelain that came loose when you sanded the crack.
- 5). Squirt epoxy resin into the crack. Epoxy resin usually comes in a tube.
- 6). Let the epoxy dry and cure for 12 hours.
- 7). Sand over the epoxy until it is smooth to the touch.
- 8). Test porcelain (or enamel) paint on a tiny part of your bathtub to see if it matches the color of your tub. Brush porcelain paint on the surface of your bathtub with long, smooth strokes if the color matches up.
- 9). Allow the tub to dry. Apply another coat of paint, if necessary.
