    Leaky Kitchen Sink Drain

    • 1). Insert a basket wrench and socket driver into the top of your sink drain. Have a helper go under the sink and apply a spanner wrench to the kitchen sink's large drain nut.

    • 2). Hold the spanner wrench in place, while you turn the basket wrench and socket driver counterclockwise. You must use both tools or the entire drain basket assembly will just spin in place. After the drain nut is loose, remove it from the bottom of the drain.

    • 3). Tap on the bottom of the kitchen drain assembly with the rubber mallet. Do this from under the sink. The entire drain system should pop up into the kitchen sink.

    • 4). Remove any plumber's putty inside the sink drain area with hot water and a sponge. Dry the area and apply new plumber's putty to the sink drain rim with your fingers. This putty will seal the drain from inside the kitchen sink.

    • 5). Place the drain down through the kitchen sink hole, on top of the putty. Install a kitchen drain seal kit from below. It contains two parts. One friction seal is included as well as one, thick rubber seal. The rubber seal goes on first, then the friction washer. Place your drain nut back on the threaded drain assembly and tighten down the entire unit from top and bottom with the basket wrench, socket driver and spanner wrench. Test the drain for leaks.

    Leaky Bathroom Sink Drain

    • 1). Remove the two sets of linkage from below the bathroom sink. One is for the lift rod and one is for the plunger rod. Remove the clip from the lift rod by simply pulling it off.

    • 2). Remove the sink drain nut, located under the sink. Turn it counterclockwise. The lower portion of the bath sink drain will now come loose from the upper portion, which is still inside the sink. Tap on the bottom of the sink drain from below with a rubber mallet to pop the upper drain portion into the sink itself.

    • 3). Wipe away any old plumber's putty, dry the area and apply new putty. Place a new bath sink drain seal into the bottom of the sink. Push down the upper portion of the sink drain, over the plumber's putty. Have a helper hold the upper drain portion in place.

    • 4). Reinstall the lower portion of the drain by screwing it back into the upper drain portion, which is sticking through the sink bottom. Tighten the drain nut, hook up both linkage sets and test for leaks.
