    • 1). Click the "Start" menu and click "My Computer."

    • 2). Click "Tools" on the menu bar and open up the "Folder Options" dialog box. Click over to the "View" tab and find the section regarding hiding system files. Uncheck the box if it isn't already unchecked. Click "OK."

    • 3). Navigate to your system32 folder, which is located wherever you installed Windows Vista. If you don't know the location, it's probably within:

      C:\Windows\System32

    • 4). Double-click the "dllcache" file. Copy the new Notepad.exe into this folder, overwriting the old file.

    • 5). Click the "Up" button in your address bar to return to the "System32" folder. Copy the new Notepad.exe into this folder, overwriting the old file.

    • 6). Click "Cancel" if a dialog box appears.
