How to Set Up Windows XP Professional
- 1). Insert the Windows XP installation CD into your CD drive. Restart your computer. Press "Space" when the computer prompts you to boot from the CD drive.
- 2). Press "Enter" on the "Welcome to Setup" page. Read the user license agreement and press "F8."
- 3). Select the drive on which to install Windows XP Professional. Press "Enter" to select "Unpartitioned Space," which is the default option. Press "Enter" again to choose the default option of "Format the partition using the NTFS file system." Allow the computer to restart after it completes the format.
- 4). Click "Next" on the "Regional and Language Settings" to accept the defaults. Enter your name and organization on the "Personalize Your Software" page and click "Next" again.
- 5). Type your 25-character product key on the "Your Product Key" page. Choose "Next."
- 6). Enter a computer name on the "Computer Name and Administrator Password" page. Type in an administrator password and confirm it in the two boxes at the bottom of the window. Click "Next."
- 7). Set the computer clock at the "Date and Time Settings" page. Select the appropriate time zone for your location. Click on the "Next" button.
- 8). Select "Next" to accept the defaults on the "Networking Settings" and the "Workgroup or Computer Domain" pages. Allow the computer to restart.
- 9). Click "OK" on the "Display Settings" box that appears after reboot. Choose the "OK" button on the "Monitor Settings" dialog box as well.

Choose the "Next" button on the "Welcome to Microsoft Windows" page. Select "Help protect my PC by turning on Automatic Updates now" on the following page, and click "Next" again. - 11
Determine your network settings on the "Will this computer connect to the Internet directly, or through a network?" screen. Leave the defaults or select the "Skip" button if you are unsure of how you connect to the Internet. - 12
Select the "Yes" option on the "Ready to activate Windows?" screen if you are connected to the Internet and ready to activate. If you are not online or don't want to activate yet, select "No." Register your copy of Windows if you choose to activate it. Click "Next" when you finish. - 13
Enter user names for the people who will be using Windows XP on the "Who will use this computer?" screen. Select "Next." - 14
Click "Finish" on the "Thank You" page to complete setup.
