How to Decorate a Frozen Cake
- 1). Allow the cake to thaw slightly. Wait until the cake depresses slightly when you gently press on it with a knife. A cake that's frozen solid is dangerous to cut. In addition, the condensation created as a completely frozen cake thaws could damage the frosting.
- 2). Stoop so the cake is at eye level. Trim the top layer of the cake by rotating the cake with one hand and cutting with a serrated knife with the other.
- 3). Put a large tip in the pastry bag and fill it with frosting.
- 4). Pipe the frosting onto the cake in concentric circles. Smooth the frosting over the surface of the cake with the frosting spatula. If you are decorating a layer cake, pipe frosting on the fist layer and top with the second layer and repeat. Then pipe frosting on the sides and smooth the entire surface.
- 5). Add any additional decorative elements you desire, such as piped flowers or writing.
