    Use the Scheduler

    • 1). Open the task scheduler. In Windows XP and 7 click on "Start" > "All Programs" > "Accessories" > "System Tools" > "Task Scheduler"

    • 2). Click "Create Task" in the pane on the right.

    • 3). Give your task any name you want, and type in a description for it. Check the box that says "Run with highest privileges" in order to prevent any program or other event from keeping your computer from resetting. Click the "Triggers" tab.

    • 4). Select when you want the task to run and click "OK." If you choose "When a specific event is logged" you will be taken to a screen to choose the particular event or scripting option that must occur for your reset to happen.

    • 5). Click on the "Actions" Tab. And in the box for "Program/Script" type in the following command, which is the command to reset your computer:

      C:\WINDOWS\\system32\\shutdown.exe -r

      At the specified time (or event) you selected, the computer will run this command which resets the system.

    • 6). Click "OK" and you will receive a warning about the switch used in the command line "-r." Accept it and click on the "Conditions" tab. Here is where you may put in any qualifiers or conditions to your laptop resetting itself, such as not if it is running on battery power.

    • 7). Click "OK" and "OK" again to close the task scheduler.
