How to Clean a Small Pool With a Filter
- 1). Find the pressure gauge and the flow meter for your small swimming pool. The pressure gauge can be found on the line of the pool that leads into the filtration system, and the flow meter is located on the return line.
- 2). View the pressure gauge and flow meter. The numbers on these items get farther apart when it's time for you to clean the filter for your small pool. The difference will be 10 to 15 pounds per square inch, or psi, when it's time to clean the filter.
- 3). Turn the power off on the pump of your pool. This is required before you clean any type of filter.
- 4). Remove the pool filter if you have a cartridge filtration system. Use your garden hose to clear away debris and follow manufacturer's instructions for cleaning the filter with a detergent solution. Rinse it off before reassembling.
- 5). Backwash a sand filter or diatomaceous earth filter, known as a D.E. filter. This process filters water in reverse to clean the filter. For a D.E. filter, you may need to add more diatomaceous earth when you're done.
