    High-Level Input

    • If your car audio head unit lacks a line-level input, you can connect its speaker outputs to the Xplod amp for further amplification. The drawback of doing this is that you will be amplifying any distortion that comes from your head unit's amp, but it is better than not using your external amp at all. Doing this requires you to connect the speaker leads from your head unit to the ports on the adapter cable that comes with your Xplod amp. You can then connect that adapter cable's four-pin square Molex connector to the high-level input just to the left of the center of its connection panel. The connector will only fit in one way.

    Line-Level Input

    • The best way to connect your Xplod is through its line-level input. This takes an unamplified signal from your head unit and amplifies it to speaker level through the Xplod's circuitry. It will provide you with the cleanest sound. To use this input, simply use a pair of analog audio patch cables with phono plug connectors at each end to connect the left and right channel outputs on your head unit to the left and right channel inputs on your Xplod amplifier.

    Speaker Connections

    • The speaker connection block is also located on your Sony Xplod amplifier's connection panel. It will consist of two terminals, positive and negative, for each speaker and will have either binding posts or spring-loaded terminals into which you insert the speaker wire. To connect your speakers, use two-conductor speaker wire, and insert one conductor into the positive terminal and one conductor into the negative terminal on your Xplod. Connect the other end to your speaker, being careful to connect the positive and negative wires to the right terminals.

    Power Connections

    • Your Xplod amp will typically have three different power connections. The remote terminal should be connected to your head unit using a lead with a spade lug. This will allow the head unit to turn your amp on and off as needed. The positive terminal should be connected to your battery's positive terminal through a fuse whose size will be determined by your Xplod amp's power rating, and the negative terminal should be connected to ground, which is typically a piece of the car's frame.
