You can reach the starting point of the trip by car. You can either carry your bicycle in the car or bike your way to the starting point which is located near the holiday cottages. You don't have to worry because there is a parking space nearby. The starting point is at the grounds of Saltram House then you head towards about 5 miles Northeast of Plymouth.  2 miles from the starting point, you will reach Plympton which is the closest WC stop. There are no formal resting facilities during this trip. You have to be well prepared before leaving your accommodations. Proper safety precautions should be observed when taking this trip since there are rough and muddy trails along the way especially when the weather is bad. It is best to take this bicyle trip during summer. Extra precaution should be taken when riding near the River Plym and other water ways. Bike lights and torches should be part of your pack since there are poorly lit and dark areas like the Leighbeer Tunnel.
