Not only is going green the right thing to do for Mother Earth, it could also improve our health and save money.
There are easy and simple things we could do to achieve this.
If we all take the time to make minor changes in our daily lives that help the environment, Mother Earth might be better to our human race.
Here are 10 easy tips to begin saving our planet.
1.
Turn off lights and any unused appliances and electronics.
This is probably one of the easiest ways to save energy.
Unplug any devices and appliances that are also unused.
Turn off the computer at night.
Just doing these few things alone are money and energy saving.
2.
Use compact fluorescent light bulbs.
They use about 75% less energy and last about 7 years.
3.
Install a programmable thermostat.
Set it low when no one's home or while your sleeping.
Lowering the temperature by 2 degrees even while you are at home is cost and energy efficient.
4.
Buy reusable grocery bags.
Reusable grocery bags are inexpensive, much more durable than plastic bags, and are easily attainable.
They also make a good bag for other things.
Going shopping at the mall? Buy a couple bags strictly for the finer things like clothes.
Keep them in the car so you don't forget.
5.
Recycle materials.
If your city doesn't pick up recyclables, you should be able to find recycling bins in various locations such as schools or churches.
Many companies and some major stores now have recycling bins, while libraries have battery recycling stations.
Look around; you're likely to find recycling stations.
6.
Buy rechargeable batteries and properly dispose of old batteries.
Not only are rechargeable batteries better for the environment, they're better on your pocket book.
Buy a few sets of rechargeable batteries so you always have a set readily charged.
7.
Don't just throw your gently used things away.
Donate or recycle the things you no longer use.
Second-hand stores are popping up more frequently who are ready to buy your gently used items.
There are also churches and charity organizations that are always ready to receive donations.
Use them as rags, have a garage sale, or simply give them away.
Unless the item is really abused, consider recycling.
8.
Go paperless.
Use the internet to receive and pay your bills.
This is easy.
Make copies of your statements by printing them in PDF form then file them away in your computer.
9.
Grow your own vegetable garden or shop your local farmers market.
The fruits and vegetables taste so much better because they are fresher and use little or no pesticides.
A lot of fuel and energy is wasted to get produce to our local supermarkets and freshness is compromised.
10.
Walk or ride your bike to your destinations.
It's not only good for your health; it saves on fuel creating a cleaner environment.
These are just 10 very simple ways we could go green and contribute to a better environment.
Finding affordable eco-friendly products is also becoming easier.
Let's be good to our Mother Earth.
Pick at least 3 from this list to start impacting our environment positively!
