How to Check Air Charge on a Pressure Tank

    • 1). Turn off the power to any pumps that are feeding the tank. This prevents additional air from escaping when you check the tank.

    • 2). Open the valve to the closet faucet to drain the tank of any water if it is hooked up to a plumbing system.

    • 3). Connect a tire gauge to the air-charging valve at the top of the tank. The gauge is designed to register air pressure.

    • 4). Read the gauge to get the current air charge of the tank in pounds per square inch. Tanks more than 2 psi below the recommended minimum should be recharged before being put back in service.
