  The Metropolitan Opera House, home to the famous opera company, is located at Lincoln Center on New York City's Upper West Side. The opera company was founded in 1883 and was originally located at Broadway and West 39th Street in Manhattan. However, the stage facilities at the original building were not sufficient, so the opera company joined with other institutions to found Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, which became the opera's home in 1966.
